The best spas on the Costa del Sol

by | May 15, 2026 | Costa del Sol

We Malagueños love to boast about our 320 days of sunshine a year, our beaches, our grilled sardines, and the hustle and bustle of our streets. But I’ll confess something: sometimes, the vibrant rhythm of our land also demands a break. When we need to disconnect from the world, turn off our mobile phones, and reset our bodies and minds, we don’t settle for just anything. We seek refuges where water, silence, and self-care take center stage.

If you’re looking for the best  spa on the Costa del Sol , you should know that our region is home to some of the most spectacular and award-winning wellness centers in all of Europe. Today, I want to invite you on a very different kind of road trip. We’re going to swap our swimsuits for bathrobes, and our beach umbrellas for heated marble floors.

Just so you know, many of these exclusive retreats are tucked away in hills, luxury resorts on the outskirts of town, or secluded spots along the coast where public transport is practically nonexistent. To truly experience total disconnection without the stress of timetables, you’ll need to drive at your own pace. That’s why I recommend securing your transport with  Albacars before you begin , picking up your keys at the airport, putting on some relaxing music, and getting ready for this wellness road trip.

Hammam Al Ándalus (Málaga Capital)

Our journey to find peace begins in the heart of Málaga’s historic center. Imagine strolling through the bustling, sun-drenched streets near Plaza de los Mártires, stepping through a carved wooden door, and suddenly being transported back hundreds of years. Hammam Al Ándalus is not your average spa; it’s an immersion into the culture of the Moorish baths. What fascinates me most about this place is the contrast: you go from the urban noise to absolute silence, broken only by the murmur of water and Andalusian music. Its pools at varying temperatures, the aroma of incense and orange blossom, and a sip of hot mint tea while you relax on the heated stones will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to continue exploring the city.

Botanic Spa by Sisley at Gran Hotel Miramar (Malaga City)

Without leaving the city, but driving towards the elegant La Caleta area, we stop at the iconic Gran Hotel Miramar. This former palace holds a wonderful secret on its lower level. This is the place where locals come when they want to celebrate a truly special occasion. Its thermal circuit is steeped in history and sophistication. As a spa by the prestigious Sisley brand, the facial and body treatments offered here are in a league of their own. Leaving this spa, getting into your car, and driving along the Paseo Marítimo with the sea breeze on your face is one of the most pleasurable sensations you can experience.

Higuerón Spa (Fuengirola – Benalmádena)

We head west on the Mediterranean motorway. If you enjoy driving, the climb towards the Higuerón area will reward you with breathtaking panoramic views of the coast. Here awaits what is considered one of the largest and most impressive spas in southern Europe. When I look for a  spa on the Costa del Sol  that has it all, I always think of Higuerón. Its facilities are immense and state-of-the-art. They have everything: jet pools, hydromassage beds, waterfalls, different types of saunas, and a stunning indoor solarium. It’s a vibrant place, ideal for couples to spend a whole morning alternating between the thermal contrast and the relaxation areas.

Mood Spa at La Zambra Resort (Mijas)

Our route now takes us inland, towards the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas. There lies La Zambra (the legendary hotel formerly known as Byblos, which hosted stars like Princess Diana). The drive here, passing golf courses and nature, is therapeutic in itself. Its Mood Spa is exquisitely designed, inspired by traditional Andalusian architecture but with a contemporary touch. Its philosophy is based on tailoring the treatment to your mood that day. If you arrive stressed from work or flights, I assure you that its therapists will know exactly which buttons to push to make you feel like you’re floating.

Anantara Spa at Villa Padierna Palace (Benahavís)

Hop in your rental car because we’re entering pure luxury territory. Leaving the coast behind and heading up towards Benahavís, you’ll come face to face with a palace that looks like it’s been plucked straight from the Italian countryside. The Villa Padierna spa is simply majestic. It’s inspired by ancient Roman baths. Imagine swimming in a pool surrounded by marble columns, classical statues, and natural light streaming through enormous windows. It’s famous for its therapeutic water circuit and for being a haven of absolute privacy. Here, stress isn’t allowed, and having your car parked right outside guarantees an equally comfortable and exclusive departure. If you’re interested in exploring more of this enchanting area, we regularly share guides and ideas for exploring Marbella and its surroundings on our blog.

Six Senses Spa at Puente Romano (Marbella)

We descend once again to Marbella’s legendary Golden Mile. In the heart of the Puente Romano resort, surrounded by lush subtropical gardens, lies the crown jewel of Marbella’s wellness scene. The spa’s design incorporates oak wood, local stone, and flowing water to seamlessly blend with the Mediterranean environment. It is renowned for its holistic therapies and the use of local ingredients, such as extra cold-pressed olive oil and sea salt, in its exfoliations. Stepping out of a massage here and taking a walk along the sandy beach just steps away is a true feast for the senses.

Spa Finca Cortesín (Casares)

We’re nearing the end of our route, entering the absolute tranquility of Casares. Driving along these roads surrounded by green hills is an immense pleasure. The Finca Cortesín spa is world-renowned. Besides its stunning thermal pools and therapists brought directly from Thailand and Bali to offer authentic oriental massages, this place has a unique feature that locals love: Spain’s first snow cave. Yes, you read that right. After stepping out of its 90-degree sauna, you can enter a cabin several degrees below zero, covered in real snow to stimulate your circulation. An extreme contrast that fills you with vitality.

Kempinski Spa (Estepona)

Our final stop takes us to the beautiful beachfront town of Estepona. The Kempinski Hotel Bahía boasts a spa renowned for its classic elegance and focus on healing and relaxing treatments using luxurious natural products. What makes this spa truly special is the seamless transition it offers; you can step out of your therapeutic mud wrap and walk directly into the tropical gardens or relax in the hammocks facing the sea, listening to the gentle lapping of the waves.

The luxury of moving at your own pace

Finding the best  spa on the Costa del Sol  isn’t difficult, because the selection is top-notch. What’s truly important is that the wellness experience doesn’t end the moment you step out of your hotel.

Having to wait for a taxi in the sun, deal with ride-hailing apps, or keep track of train schedules can ruin all the relaxation you’ve worked up in five minutes. That’s why the real luxury for locals is getting in our car, setting the air conditioning to the perfect temperature, choosing our favorite music, and driving leisurely back home or to our vacation apartment.

To ensure your Malaga experience is perfect from start to finish, Albacars offers a modern fleet of vehicles, complete transparency, and no hidden costs. Because your peace of mind should begin the moment you land at the airport. Pack your towel, book your massage, and let us take care of getting you behind the wheel. You deserve this break!
