Hello everyone! I’m your personal guide to the most charming corners of Málaga and the Costa del Sol. Today, I bring you an adventure that excites me every year: the spectacular Feria de Málaga. Get ready to dive into a week of pure Malagan magic, because from August 17th to 24th, 2024, Málaga will be dressed to impress!
All About the Feria de Málaga
Friends, if there’s one thing that defines summer in Málaga, it’s definitely our beloved fair. It’s that time of year when the whole city turns into a whirlwind of color, music, and joy. And this 2024 will be no exception. In fact, it’s expected to be one of the most crowded editions in history!
Important Dates: August 17th to 24th
Mark your calendars, because the party officially kicks off at midnight from Friday, August 16th to Saturday, August 17th. And you know what? I’m already counting the days!
Location and Interactive Map of the Fair
The Feria de Málaga has the unique feature of being two fairs in one. On one side, we have the daytime fair in the heart of the historic center, and on the other, the nighttime fair at the Cortijo de Torres fairgrounds. Let me break it down for you:
Day Fair vs. Night Fair: Which Do You Prefer?
Day Fair: Imagine the streets of Málaga’s historic center pulsating to the rhythm of Sevillanas and Verdiales. Calle Larios, Plaza de la Constitución, and nearby areas fill up with people dancing, singing, and enjoying from midday until 6:00 PM. The atmosphere is simply festive and joyful all around.
Night Fair: When the sun sets, the party moves to the Cortijo de Torres fairgrounds. Here you’ll find around 250 booths, fairground attractions, and an atmosphere that doesn’t stop until dawn. It’s like night doesn’t even exist!
Best Spots to Watch the Fireworks
The opening fireworks are one of my favorite moments. The fireworks light up the Málaga sky, reflecting on the sea, and it’s a sight you don’t want to miss. Here are my “secret” spots to watch them:
- Gibralfaro: From here you’ll get a panoramic view of the entire city. Just be sure to arrive early because it gets crowded.
- El Palmeral and Muelle Uno: Close to where the fireworks are launched. The view is spectacular.
- La Coracha: Offers amazing views closer to the center.
- Playa de la Malagueta: This is where most of the younger crowd gathers. The atmosphere is unbeatable.
My personal tip: If you can, try to watch them from a boat in the bay. It’s a unique experience that I did a couple of years ago, and I assure you, it’s unforgettable.

History and Origins of the Fair
The Celebration in Honor of the Catholic Monarchs
Did you know our beloved fair has over 500 years of history? Yes, you heard that right. It all dates back to 1487, when the Catholic Monarchs reconquered the city of Málaga. To celebrate, an annual fair was established which has evolved into what we know today.
Evolution of the Fair Over the Years
From that first celebration (it’s been a while since 1491) to what we experience today, the Feria de Málaga has evolved greatly. From being primarily a commercial and livestock event, it has become one of the most important summer festivals in Spain. Imagine that it now attracts over a million visitors each year!
